For the second time, Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian star player of Liverpool, has won the Footballer of the Year award of the prestigious Football Writers’ Association. The award was announced on Friday.
Salah won the award, beating Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne and West Ham United’s Declas Rees. He alone received 48 percent of the vote.
Salah broke Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of winning the award twice, one of the best stars in football history. Earlier in 2016, he also won the award of the best footballer of the Football Writers Association.
In women’s football, the award went to Chelsea striker Sam Carr. The 26-year-old star received 40 percent of the vote. He is followed by Arsenal’s Vivian Miedema and Manchester City’s Lauren Hemp.
Both of them are in the race to become the top scorers in their respective leagues. Salah has already scored 22 goals, while Sam Carr has scored 18 goals.
The award will be presented to Salah and Sam Carr on May 5.
