Bangladesh’s historic victory on South African soil

After David Miller was stamped out by Mehdi Hasan Miraj in the third ball of the 47th over, commentators said that the match ended here. South Africa’s defeat is certain. The rest was how far the host Proteas could go.

In the end, Keshav Maharaj and Lungi Engidi hit a few fours and sixes, but they could not stop the historic victory of Bangladesh.

With the announcement, Bangladesh saw its first historic victory on South African soil. He threw the target of 315 runs and bowled out the Proteas for 26 runs in 48.5 overs. Tamim Iqbal & Co. left the field with a victory of 36 runs.

After Shakib-Rabbi with bat, Mehedi Hasan Miraj, Taskin Ahmed and Shariful Islam shook the Protea camp with ball. The most successful mirage against the Proteas with 4 wickets. Taskin Ahmed broke the hosts’ waist with 3 wickets. And Shariful Islam took 2 wickets by bringing break through at important time.

Earlier, Bangladesh did not win any match against Proteas in any format. Bangladesh faced South Africa 9 times. But he never tasted victory. Stay away from victory, the Tigers did not show the courage to fight even the slightest. The shortest margin was defeat at 81 (November 6, 2006 in Potchefstrom).

Before leaving the country, Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan and coach Russell Domingo said they wanted to win at least one.

Russell Domingo said he was hoping for something that had never happened before on South African soil. In the end, Bangladesh did it in the first match of the series at Centurion’s Super Sports Park. Picked up a great win.

It was like a match drawn on the table. Whether the toss was won or not, all the thinking to make the plan work was probably made. Even after losing the toss, the game plan did not have much effect in the match. Centurion’s field is small, runs are made here. The batsmen got a lot of runs. The Proteas themselves have flooded the field with runs in so many matches before!

Bangladesh did not bat, it started well. The 95-run partnership between Tamim and Liton combined to build confidence. That is why Bangladesh scored 300 runs in three fifties. The Tigers stopped at 314 runs. Shakib Al Hasan, who considered himself a passenger in the Afghanistan series, was the most successful. Shakib is a great example of how he can dedicate himself to playing on the field. He played 7 runs in 64 balls.

Tamim Iqbal also started bowling with Shakib. But Shariful brought the first break through. Then in one over, Taskin gave a big push to Protea top order. 3 wickets for 36 runs. Temba Bavuma and Rashi von der Dussen then put on a 65-run stand to end the match. But Shariful came and thwarted their efforts.

Rafi von der Dussen was terrified, trying to get the match out with 6 runs. But Taskin’s delivery turned into a great catch for the rabbi and his efforts were interrupted. David Miller sought to reclaim his “Killer Miller” title. But he also gave up in the face of Miraj’s brilliant bowling. After scoring 69 runs, he remained in the losing row.

Huge target of 315 runs. Although South Africa is always strong at home. On the other hand, Bangladesh plays the ODI format well and the Tigers have several experiences of losing to the Proteas in this format. However, these victories against the Proteas were either at home or abroad. Not on South African soil.

That is why Shakib and Tamim have been saying that they want at least one victory in South Africa. To that end, Bangladesh batsmen have done their job in the first ODI. Then the match was in the hands of the bowlers. In the end, they also proved themselves.

Bangladesh had a great start with the goal of winning. Left-arm pacer Shariful Islam picked up the wicket of Protea opener Janeman Malan in the fourth over. Malan caught Mushfiqur behind the wicket with the ball on the edge of the bat. Mushfiqur Rahim made a great catch.

The Tiger wicketkeeper picked up the ball, which was about to hit the ground, in a flash. The first blow in the South African innings came on the head of the team’s 18 runs.

However, the umpire was not sure about the catch. He sent a soft signal to the third umpire with ‘not out’. It was seen that the ball hit the bat and Mushfiqur also clearly caught the catch.

Right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed was brought under attack shortly after Shariful’s bowling cannon. Taskin reciprocated Tamim’s confidence. He did not take much time to bring success. In the same over, the two top-order batsmen of the Proteas showed the way to the dressing room.

The first wicket of Proteas fell on the head of 18 runs with the ball of Shariful. The second wicket fell on the head of Taskin’s 37 runs. After taking the wicket in the 1st ball of the 8th over, another wicket fell in the fourth ball. This time, Taskin turned Aiden Markram, the reliable batsman of the Proteas, into the catch of Mirage.

Another opener Kyle Veraini fell into the lbw trap with a personal 21 off Taskin. He didn’t even get a chance to review the first ball of Taskin’s over. He made his way to the pavilion as soon as the umpire raised his finger. The 4th ball of the over was fuller length. The catch was near the point. Miraj easily palmed it.

Taskin’s trembling in one over caught the South African batting line-up. After taking 3 for 36, two South African batsmen, Temba Bavuma and Rashi von der Dussen, tried to take control of the match. They both deal with their confidence as they choose to embark on their play activities.

Captain Temba Bavuma and Rashi von der Dussen put on a 65-run stand. Shariful came to bowl his 6th over in the 26th over and gave a break through gift. The Proteas captain caught Mushfiqur behind the wicket. He was dismissed for 31 off 55 balls.

Even though Temba Bavuma was out, Rashi von der Dussen seemed to be going to take the match from Bangladesh. Opportunities to get out were created several times; But every time he survived.

Finally, Taskin Ahmed took on the role of savior. He showed the way to the dressing room by turning Rashi von der Dussen into a difficult catch in the hands of Yasir Ali Rabbi. In the first ball of the 36th over, Taskin was caught by Fon der Dussen while playing in the deep backward square leg. Yasir ran and palmed the catch. He was dismissed for 6 runs.

After the dismissal of Fon der Dussen, David Miller again became the cause of danger for Bangladesh by scoring a quick run. However, Mendi Hasan Miraj kept Bangladesh in the match with the wickets of Andil Pehlukaiyo, Marco Janssen and Kagiso Rabada.

However, he did the real work with the third ball of the 47th over. Miller missed the ball when he came to play Mirage dancing down the wicket. Experienced wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim did not delay in stamping. He scored 69 off 56 balls. He hit 3 sixes with 6 boundaries. In the end, Keshav Maharaj and Lungi Engidi scored 23 runs off 17 balls and 15 runs off 10 balls only to reduce the margin of defeat.

However, when Mahmudullah said that Keshav Maharaj was lbw, the umpire did not want to give out. Very confident Mahmudullah immediately asked for DRS. He kept saying with confidence, it’s out. In the end, the TV replay showed that he was right and the umpire Bongani jailed and announced his apology.
