Bangladesh got ODI status in 1996. The Tigers got their first chance to play ODIs on South African soil in 2002, five years later.

20 years have passed since then. In these 20 years, Bangladesh has played 14 ODIs in South Africa. Out of which 13 lost, one match did not result. There was no victory in any match.

Why just one day, the Tigers have never won against the hosts on South African soil in any format. The long wait is finally over.

After 20 years of waiting, the red-green jersey holders lost to the Proteas in their home ODI. Bangladesh made history on Friday night under the leadership of Tamim Iqbal.

Itihasagara that victory did not seem to come. He came to Daputa after playing. The toss at Centurion’s Super Sports Park did not help Bangladesh. But when the tiger roars, no obstacle can stand in front of it.

South Africa could not. After losing the toss, Bangladesh made a huge collection of 314 runs for 6 wickets. With 6 balls left in the innings, the hosts were bowled out for 28 runs. Bangladesh got a historic victory of 36 runs.

This is not the only victory. Bangladesh has set several records on this day. 314 for 7, the highest team collection of the Tigers on South African soil.

Shakib Al Hasan and Yasir Ali Rabbi added 115 runs for the fourth wicket partnership, which is the record of Bangladesh’s best partnership for any wicket on South African soil.

Besides, Bangladesh hit 11 sixes in their innings in this match. This is the joint record for most sixes by an Tigers in an ODI innings on foreign soil.
