Shakib Al Hasan is not in a position to play international cricket as he is physically and mentally disturbed. He asked the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for rest. BCB has fulfilled Shakib’s demand. He has been banned from all forms of cricket till April 30 by the country’s cricket governing body.
This was reported on Wednesday (March 9) by the director of the BCB and chairman of the cricket management department Jalal Yunus. From today, Shakib is officially going to rest for 53 days. Only South Africa will miss the international tour at this time. Bangladesh will play two Tests and three ODIs in South Africa. The team management had planned to keep him in a team of two formats.
Sri Lanka will visit Bangladesh in May. The Lankans will play two Tests in the ICC Test Championship. If all goes well and Shakib expresses his desire to play, maybe he will be seen in international cricket again with that series.
The Dhaka Premier League, the biggest event of domestic cricket, is starting on March 15. Jalal Yunus, director of the BCB and head of the cricket steering committee, said today that he has been rested from all forms of cricket. This means Shakib will not be able to play in Dhaka League. Like last time, he was supposed to play for Mohammedan Sporting Club.
Bangladesh last visited South Africa in 2016. Seba also took leave from Shakib Test series. Discussions of his disinterest in Test cricket also started from then on. The left-arm all-rounder himself sparked the discussion after returning from the ICC ban. He played the first Test of the series against the West Indies in 2021 but missed the second Test due to injury. He did not go on a Test tour to Sri Lanka last year to play in the IPL. He also took a family leave from the Test series against New Zealand earlier this year. The left-arm spin all-rounder has been away from cricket for a long time this time.
